Skillet Shrimp In 10 Minutes Or Less

UPDATED · PUBLISHED Jan 30, 2019 BY · This post may contain affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Make Skillet Shrimp when you’re short on time, but don’t want to compromise on dinner or your diet. Follow this easy 10-minute process to cook tender, tasty shrimp every single time.

Cooking shrimp on the stove-top is my favorite way to make this delicacy because it’s easy to monitor the cooking process and pluck shrimp from the pan at the perfect time.

The result? Tender shrimp that’s never chewy.

We use the same technique to make Greek Shrimp with Tomatoes, Cauliflower Grits and Shrimp, Shrimp Zoodles and even Pan Seared Scallops.

This recipe isn’t spicy at all…or even lemony…unless you want it to be!

It’s a classic butter and/or olive oil flavoring that’s easily customized based on how you will use it. I find myself making stove-top shrimp all the time for salads, soups, and pasta. It’s high in protein, low in calories and tastes amazing. What’s not to love?

All shrimp lovers should have this technique in their arsenal.

Chef Joel & Jenn: Spicy Shrimp Tacos

After two fabulous mini-vacations its been nice to get back into a somewhat normal routine and enjoy some good old fashion home cooking. I’m not sure what spurred on the latest recipe, but I woke up on Sunday morning craving shrimp tacos. I ended up scouring the internet for a shrimp taco recipe and came across one on GimmeDelicious.com.

The recipe is both one for shrimp tacos and an avocado salsa to pair with it. We stuck strictly with the shrimp tacos electing to just pair it with some sour cream and avocado rather than make the salsa. My one failure as a chef for the spicy shrimp tacos was my lack of reading the directions before cooking. The recipe calls to marinate the shrimp for 10 minutes to 24 hours. We went for 10-minutes and the shrimp and seasoning suffered for it.

After letting the shrimp quickly marinate we got the rest of the ingredients prepped and we were ready to get cooking. The process was pretty easy and had the recipe come out better I could have totally seen the spicy shrimp tacos being a staple for us. Sadly, the shrimp came out tasteless. There was no spice, and almost no taste of any of the seasoning we had put on it. Even when we got some taste of the spice it just didn’t pack the punch we were hoping for.

At the end of the day we ate the tacos, we tolerated the tacos, and we’ve decided we won’t be making these tacos again.

What Youll Need To Make Peel

As with all of my shrimp recipes, I recommend buying frozen shrimp. Most shrimp are cleaned and flash-frozen shortly after being caught. Unless you live on the coast, the fresh shrimp you see in the seafood case is typically thawed frozen shrimp. Who knows how long its been sitting there, so youre better off buying frozen and defrosting it yourself.

Shrimp have a dark vein running along their backs, which needs to be removed. Its a bit tedious to do yourself, so look for shrimp labeled shell split and deveined.

To defrost frozen shrimp, leave them in the refrigerator overnight or run them under cool water.

How To Make Shrimp Mozambique

Set a large sauté pan over medium heat. Add the butter, onions, and garlic. Sauté for 3 to 5 minutes to soften the onions, stirring regularly.

Once the onions are soft, add in the Sazon seasoning packets. Mix the seasoning into the onions.

Then pour in the beer and hot sauce. Simmer the sauce for 5 to 8 minutes to reduce and thicken.

Once the sauce has been reduced by half, add in the raw shrimp.

Is This Keto Seafood Recipe Freezable

Yes! You can totally freeze this dish. To freeze it, fully prepare the recipe and chill it for several hours in the fridge.

When it is good and cold, package it in freezer-friendly plastic zipper bags or in your favorite freezer containers. Freeze it for up to three months.

Try to keep the shrimp covered in sauce this will help protect them from freezer burn.

To reheat this dish, thaw it in the fridge overnight and heat it at half power in the microwave until heated through. Or, gently warm it in a pan on the stove. Your butter sauce might separate a little bit, but itll still taste great.

Drunken Noodles With Shrimp

How to make shrimp croquettes with Chef Jennifer Hill Booker.

The flavor of these drunken noodles is perfectly balanced spicy, savory, and slightly sweet and the lime juice rounds the whole dish out. This Thai noodle recipe is also filling, loaded with protein from the shrimp and eggs and naturally gluten-free if using gluten-free soy sauce. More of my favorite Thai shrimp recipes are this Shrimp Pad Thai and Thai Green Curry Coconut Shrimp with Basil.

I recently got my hands on a new cookbook, Once Upon a Chef: Weeknight/Weekend Cookbook by Jenn Segal and Ive been dying to make this dish. The book is 70% fast and easy weeknight meals and 30% slow and soothing weekend recipes. All her recipes look wonderful, and this dish did not disappoint! I slightly tweaked this one by cutting back on the oil but otherwise kept it the same. I think youll love it as much as we did, it had so much flavor!

  • Chef Joel & Jenn: Tuscan Shrimp Penne

The last couple of months have been quite the busy months for Jenn and I. It’s hard to imagine that in a mere week we will be moving back to Newport Beach after spending two years in a high-rise. Before our apartment becomes a jungle of boxes we decided to do one final Chef Joel & Jenn, Parmesan Shrimp Pasta. I actually tried to do this a week back but Whole Food was out of fresh shrimp and only had pre-cooked. Luckily this week they were back in stock and ready for our pasta.

The recipe itself was pretty straightforward. Cook the penne based on the box, while that’s going I heated up the butter in a pan and cooked the garlic and then added the shrimp. That only took a couple of minutes and the shrimp were done. From there we added in the freshly chopped tomatoes, heavy cream, and pasta water and made the sauce. Once that all combined nicely put the shrimp and pasta all together and like that, dinner was served. We did decide against adding in their suggested spinach as neither of us are fans of it in our pasta.

It turned out to be one of the best recipes we’ve done in a long, long time. It could easily be done during the week and is one of the few “Chef Joel & Jenn’s” that we both absolutely loved. It was super simple to make, the fresh ingredients helped, and we were left with what I thought was one of our best dinners to date. It revitalized our love for trying new recipes and hopefully, we can continue trying new recipes once we’re settled into to our new digs.

What Youll Need To Make New Orleans

Before we get started, a few words on buying shrimp. While fresh seafood is obviously superior to frozen, I always buy frozen shrimp. Fact is, unless you live on the coast, its near impossible to find truly fresh shrimp. The fresh shrimp you see in the seafood case at the supermarket is typically thawed frozen shrimp, and you never know how long its been sitting out.

Almost all shrimp are cleaned and flash frozen shortly after being caught, so for the freshest shrimp, youre better off buying frozen and defrosting it yourself. For this recipe, I buy extra-large frozen shrimp labeled shell split and deveined. Come dinnertime, all I have to do is run the shrimp under warm water to quickly defrost and then peel.

    What Makes Drunken Noodles Drunken

Jenn says: Contrary to what the name implies, the dish does not contain alcohol. Pad means stir fry and kee mao means drunkard, so its not the noodles that are drunk but rather the person who is eating them! Im sure the dish is comforting after a night of partying or that its spicy enough to sober you up but for me, its simply a delicious weeknight dinner, ice-cold beer optional.

Hosting Tips For A Successful Cookout:

    • This is one occasion where paper plates are welcomed. I tend to lean towards the Dixie Ultra 10-inch plates. They are sturdy and can stand up to sauce. Nothing is more annoying than a soggy paper plate. Please stay away from styrofoam. The earth loves us we should love her back.
    • Make sure all of your food is covered throughout the event. Check periodically to refresh your trays and. dishes, so the food always looks appetizing. It sucks to be in the second round of guests and be met with food that looks picked over.
    • In the spirit of good housekeeping, always have a nice-sized bottle of hand sanitizer on the table near the spread.
    • For all my aspiring grill masters, invest in some hickory chips for your coal mix. It will add a deliciously sweet smokey dimension to your meat, chicken and fish.
    • Seasonings, seasonings, seasonings are key. I cant stress this enough. My go-to fave is Ms. Mickeys Creole Seasonings. Sis, really put her heart and soul into these blends so you really wouldnt have to do any of the hard-core flavor work yourself.
    • For your plant-based guests, buy a few Beyond Meat patties or portobello mushroom caps. Marinade them in your favorite meat recipes so they look as tantalizing and savory as your other main protein entrées.
    • Prepare side dishes that are simple yet, can feed a crowd. Choose from classics, such as: potato salad, pasta salad , coleslaw, mixed green salads, or rice pilaf.

Chef Joel & Jenn: Fresh Herb And Garlic Pasta With Shrimp

We’re back with our third installment of Chef Joel & Jenn. Our first two entrees were the Roasted Red Pepper Chicken Pasta and Oven Chicken Fajitas. Today we come with another great recipe and the first time either Jenn or I have ever cooked shrimp. We decided that we wanted to go with another light pasta for our dinner this past Sunday and went with the Fresh Herb and Garlic Pasta with Shrimp. The recipe comes from ForTheLoveofCooking.net.

Out of the three recipes we’ve done so far this is by far the least amount of work needed. We went to Ralphs Sunday morning and picked up some raw shrimp, garlic, and parsley and had everything else to make the recipe. Before we cooked dinner tonight we did take a nice leisurely hike at Crystal Cove only getting us prepared for our nine mile hike next Saturday.

Once we got home we set out all of the ingredients and began boiling the water. The next step was to remove the tails/shells from the shrimp and run them under cold water. One the water was boiled we put the pasta in and half way through that we cooked the shrimp. From there we took the shrimp out of the pan, briefly cooked the minced garlic, put in some of the water from the pasta and that was it. Put the shrimp back in the pan with the pasta and parsley and you had yourself some amazing Garlic Shrimp Pasta.

It was yet another amazing meal made by Chef Joel & Jenn. Both of our plates were licked clean. I can’t wait to make this one again!
